How can I make sure I never get text bullied?
It’s dead simple – if a bully can’t contact you, they can’t send you bad stuff. Here’s how to make sure textbullying never happens to you or someone you know:
- Your contact info is really important! Only give it to family and friends you really trust. Make a list of who’s got it, and try to remember their contact info too so you know who’s ‘safe’.
- Get together with your mates, and agree not to give out each other’s mobile numbers, email addresses, instant messaging contacts, or chat IDs without your say-so.
- To stay safe and beat bullies, never give out your contact info in a chat room, however cool a new chat friend seems. The same goes for your online games console – just because it’s loads of fun doesn’t mean someone won’t have a pop at you while you’re chatting.
- What info can people see about you when you’re chatting? Only use a chat room where you feel safe and where you can stop other people seeing any personal info.
- Before using a new chatroom or signing up for instant messaging, why not set up a totally new email address with just a code or cool nickname, not your real name? That way you’ll stay safer.
- Is everyone on your instant messaging contacts list a real chat mate who’d never hassle you? Don’t add someone unless you’re sure.
- Never picture message or email a photo of you unless you don’t mind anyone seeing it – from your granny to someone you really fancy. Once it’s sent, you can’t get it back. Never snap your mates with your camera unless they say you can.
